Assertion and Reason questions are a recent addition to the CBSE paper, but it is a very important part of almost all entrance examinations. These questions are a bit tricky.
First, what is assertion/ reason type question? In Assertion – Reason type of question, students are provided with two statements named “Assertion” and “Reason”. Assertion- means a simple statement. Reason- is explanation for the assertion. Read the statements carefully and choose the correct option. Options will be A. Both the Assertion and the Reason are true and the Reason is the correct explanation of the Assertion. B. Assertion and the Reason are both true but the Reason is not the correct explanation of the Assertion. C. Assertion is true but the Reason is false. D. Both the statements are False. Best way is - Write at the corner of the page, in abbreviation, a clear picture of options available for A/R questions, in the given examination. Options A R A T T B T x T C T F D F F Where A and R are Assertion and Reason respectively, ABCD are different options and T and F represent True and False Keep this in front of you, and easily choose the correct option. Then, How to prepare so that you can solve A/R Questions easily in Exam. Read NCERT book religiously. 90% A/R questions are directly taken from NCERT book. Rest 10% are logical. They are not out of syllabus but they just need a bit out of the box thinking. • Basic Concept should be very clear. Revise it as and when possible from NCERT Book.
• Don't forget to read the summary, given at the end of each chapter in Chemistry.
• While studying watch out for the ‘clue’ words like because, therefore, hence but, since, due to etc. which are used to explain the concept. Highlight them for easy recall.
• Easy way is – download the NCERT book in PDF and search for the ‘clue’ words. This will help you find almost all the assertion and reason quickly.
• Practice solving A /R problems. AR questions are also part of every entrance examination. Make it a habit to revise A-R questions daily and be a master of it.
