Image
Hello Students. Welcome to Mystery In Chemistry’s Tips & Tricks series. Understanding chemistry and scoring high in exams are two different things and hence require different set of skills. Let us learn some tips and tricks to help you score 100/100 in chemistry. So the 5th tip is all about time management. As the saying goes - Manage your time before time manages you. It is common to see students spend a lot of time on simple 1 mark questions and be left with very little time at the end for solving lengthy 10 mark questions. As a result they miss those last questions altogether, in spite of knowing the answers. So the need fo the hour is to Manage your time effectively right from the beginning of the examination. Let us be real. Exams are pretty awful for a whole bunch of reasons but one of the reasons that probably tops the list is - the Time crunch. You might have prepared well for the exam. But time limits of exam - adds a whole new level of pressure. There are four wa...

Hello Students. Welcome to Mystery In Chemistry’s Tips & Tricks series. Understanding chemistry and scoring high in exams are two different things and hence require different set of skills. Let us learn some tips to score 100/100 in chemistry. So here is the fourth tip - Choose your options quickly. To understand this take an example- here the question is- Why are medicines more effective in colloidal state? OR What is the difference between an emulsion and a gel? It is just a 1 mark question and you have to choose and answer any one of the questions. So don’t take more than 15 seconds to decide, which one you would like to answer. Both are related to colloidal solutions. Now in the first question i.e. - Why are medicines more effective in colloidal state? You can recall that - body fluids, blood and plasma are in colloidal state and if the medicine is taken in colloidal state, absorption and assimilation of the medicine will be easier. Next in the second question i.e. - What ...

Hello Students. Welcome to Mystery In Chemistry’s Tips & Tricks series. Understanding chemistry and scoring high in exams are two different things and hence require different skill sets. Let us learn the third tip to help you score 100/100 in chemistry. So here is the third tip. Use the symbols carefully. Confused?? Let me explain this further. Let’s say the question is “Arrange the following in increasing order of B.Ps Trimethylamine, ethanol and ethyl amine.” You know - Boiling Point depends upon H-Bonding. And H-Bonding is possible only when H- atom is directly attached to more electronegative atom., In the first one H-bonding is absent because no H-atoms attached to N-atom. B.P. should be the least here.BP should be high in alcohols as compare to amines. H-bonding is stronger in alcohols sa O is more electronegative than N-atom. Everything is clear. you can write the answer: Here you need the 3rd Tip- Use the symbol carefully. Check the answer. Compounds are in proper order b...

Hello Students. Welcome to Mystery In Chemistry’s Tips & Tricks series. Understanding chemistry and scoring high in exams are two different things and hence require different set of skills . Let us learn some tips to help you score 100/100 in chemistry. So here is the second tip - Check the question No. and write it clearly, before writing the Answer in Answer- sheet. To understand this tip, let's take an example. Here is Q.No. 5. What is the basic structural difference between glucose and fructose? Answer is quite simple. Recall- Glucose and fructose, generally present in fruits, but here the question is about structural difference. Here is glucose - open chain and cyclic structure. And fructose structure must be this one. Quite clear. You can write the answer. But wait a minute. Before writing the correct answer check the Question No. and write it clearly. So here it is Q.No. 5 write it first then answer. You know the answer so write it - Structural Difference betw...

Hello Students. Welcome to Mystery In Chemistry’s Tips & Tricks series. Understanding chemistry and scoring high in exams are two different things and hence require different skill sets. Let us learn the first tip to help you score 100/100 in chemistry. So here is the first tip. Read the question carefully and underline the keywords. Now, let us take an example. Suppose the question is “Out of NaCl and AgCl, which one shows frenkel defect and why?” - the first thing to do is “Read the question carefully”. Next, underline the keywords - NaCl, AgCl, Frenkel Defect and Why. With the Frenkel defect, you may immediately recall - Oh! It is displacement of cation from its original site to interstitial site. Come back to Question - notice the comparison - Out of NaCl and AgCl. Here, AgCl is the Correct Answer. Now focus on the second part of the question - Why?  The answer is, because Ag+ ion is smaller in size. If the cation is smaller than only it can slide to interstitial ...
